So everyone knows the Mountain Goats right? Little bit of folk, little bit of rock and a lot of stories to tell. Every song follows a clever narrative with the energy of their music as a main character in every tale. And there was soooo much energy! Even when they were standing still, the Mountain Goats seemed to be vibrating with the anticipation of bouncing up and down again. The energy was not just contained to the stage either – the crowd’s own excitement was evidenced in some erratic movements, but mostly it manifested itself as a vigorous sing-a-long. At one point there was a vote as to what the last song would be. All of the fans reminded me of school kids, with their hands shooting up, positive and eager for the answer. The ultimate answer to the evening was “an amazing event.” It is always an incredible experience to witness a show that includes a room full of emotionally charged devotees that can’t decide if they should laugh or cry. With the Mountain Goats, everyone was assured with the rich supply of happiness and…(dare I say it?) a rich supply of love.
