Sweden's Fredrik are new to the states. In fact, when I caught them in Boston, it was part of their first ever U.S. tour, in support of their debut album, Na Na Ni. And even though the crowd was small, the band played their hearts out. Maybe it's due to the intimate nature of Fredrik's music, but I felt like I was hanging out with old friends all night, and they were just casually playing me some of their music. If they ever felt uncomfortable on a small stage so far away from home, they didn't show it. Everything about their record that I love could be found in their live performance. It helps that one of their guitarists has a small arsenal of effects and pedals, with which he was able to add beautiful textures to Fredrik's already warm and appealing sound. If they keep making music like they are now, I bet there'll be quite a bigger crowd next time.
