It's hard to listen to Department Of Eagles and not think of Grizzly Bear. The band consists of Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and his friend Fred Nicolaus, "with help from two other members of Grizzly Bear, Chris Taylor and Chris Bear". So this is three quarters of Grizzly Bear with a friend. Clearly, it's going to sounds a bit similar, and it does. But you know, that doesn't matter so much. This is excellent music, regardless of the associations of the musicians involved. Soaring multi-layered vocal harmonies, explosive instrumentals, everything here just locks in and sends you to your own world. Hell Yes. In Ear Park is one of my favorites of the year. Such a good album and yes essentially a new grizzly bear album. Phantom Other is such a tasty piece.
