Live: Wicker Park Fest (Saturday)

This was my third time seeing Nomo, and they have never disappointed me live. The music is also so infectious and energetic live, with every member of the band showing off their musicality. As a group of musicians, they sound tighter every time I see them, with it locking in just a little more. Their saxophonist always burns the house down with his solos, the bassist is so goofy and energetic (not to mention her tasty bass lines), the multitude of percussionists creates great textures -- I'll never get bored of seeing them live.

DAEDELUSI did, on the other hand, get bored very quickly with Daedelus' set. The only album of his that I enjoy is Denies The Day's Demise, so perhaps I'm just not that big of a fan of his music. But I really dig that album, so I was hoping to enjoy his performance. But the music was too messy, too sloppy. There were so many things going on that it was hard to just groove on a beat. This is one of the same problems I feel Daedelus has with much of his recorded material, so perhaps that's just his style. Maybe I'm just not into his style that much -- 'cause I wasn't that into the show.

PREFUSE 73My reaction to Prefuse 73 live was similar to my Daedelus reaction. While I love his albums, the live show wasn't quite my speed. Most of the beats, like Daedelus live, were too busy. Things just weren't tight and grooving. There were moments that were absolutely incredible when everything locked in, but they were too few and far between. Too much unfiltered noise, and not enough of the tight beats that I've come to love Prefuse 73 for.
