After recording as Bright Eyes for the last decade, Mr. Oberst has decided to release his next batch of music under his own name. And, as I listened through to the self-titled Conor Oberst, I can perhaps guess why. While he still has help from a band (even if they aren’t the same members of Bright Eyes), this record does sound more like solo album. There are more moments that simply show off Conor and his songwriting, as opposed to an an all-out band structure. But, then again, this happens at some point on all the Bright Eyes albums as well. In any case, Conor Oberst is a great album from a still budding songwriter. While I wasn’t too keen on Cassadaga, I’m completely down with this effort. It isn’t as masterful (see I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning) or as intensely emotional (see, um, every album he’s ever released) as past albums, but it’s intriguing nonetheless. I love his songwriting, and this album showcases it as best as any of them. His alt-country influences shine through, and he can draw some easy comparisons to the style of Bob Dylan. It’s a great listen from start to finish, and Conor continues to show why he deserves to be called one of today’s best songwriters.Conor Oberst will be released August 5th via Merge.

Conor Oberst (sucks)
No... Conor Oberst RULES. There is no one else like him.
I afraid to say this, but I liked his music a bit more when he was suffering and baffling, though he stil will remain a hero for me.

who ever said Condo Oberst sucks is an idiot and a low life.. if you dont like him, why would you waste your time leaving a wack comment? O.o?
so put that in your pocket. hmph.
other than that, i think he is an amazing extraordinary, spectacular songwriter. his voice may not be the best, but it shouldnt matter.. his lyrics are genious to me.
