Since the Lollapalooza schedule came out last week, I thought it would be fitting to write about an artist who I'm looking forward to seeing. I've already written about many of those I'm planning to enjoy, but the Kills have somehow escaped a feature until today. I've been into them since 2003's Keep On Your Mean Side, their debut. That was the same year that the White Stripes Elephant came out, and the garage blues-influenced male/female duo tendencies of both groups helped to get the Kills some press. And while they're altogether not that similar, I'm glad that this timing helped bring the Kills to light. Fast forward to last march, when they released their third album, Midnight Boom. It's their best record yet, more mature than their previous work, and it has re-instilled my enthusiasm for the group. There's a certain soul about their minimalist garage blues-rock that really pulls me in. This music has attitude; it has spirit. It's raw, but it's powerful. The Kills - U.R.A. My heart fancies The Kills.
They'll be playing in SF in September with a bunch of great headliners if you're in the area
