Nomo played an outstanding show to an enthusiastic Saturday night crowd at the Middle East Up last week. They tore through songs from their first two albums, as well as showcasing a few new tunes from their forthcoming third album. And the new ones were just as great as the old. After one particularly rousing unreleased song early on, frontman Elliot Bergman commented, "Maybe we should've saved that one for later in the set." Nah, it was alright, because everything that followed held up the same energy. The grooves were infectious, with absolutely burning solos from every member of the band. Towards the end of the night, they showed off their capacity for enjoyment of all genres with a fun cover of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes", much to my delight. Everything about their set was great, and I couldn't help but happily dance through the night, cheering as loud as I could after every song. They seemed to be surprised of their popularity, with Elliot taunting with [paraphrased] comments such as, "How many of you guys have seen us before?" Crowd cheers. "Yeah, right." At one point, he said "Any requests? Wow, I don't think we've ever had a crowd that actually knew our songs well enough to have requests." Well, believe it. Nomo is beginning to get the attention they deserve.
