E-603

Oh shit, son. E-603 just released a masterpiece of a mash-up album, and it's the best thing to hit the scene since Girl Talk. A good mash-up album should be something exciting for a music fan to listen to, as you should keep hearing things you know. It's like "Where's Waldo" for your ears, really. And E-603's new album, Something For Everyone, stays true to its title. He throws in so many samples into such a short amount of time, you can't help but be amazed. There are so many songs that I recognize -- let alone songs that I dearly love -- that it's a blast to bump through the album. The transitions are seamless, as he rolls through an outrageous amount of samples, sometimes only sampling something for literally a second. But it works. And that is why this is exquisite work. As far as his sampling choices, the record is incredibly rock friendly, featuring a vast array of samples from both the mainstream and the indie world. I mean, it's a blast to listen to contemporary rap tunes blended flawlessly with Spoon, Wilco, Sigur Ros, The Strokes, Tokyo Police Club, Vampire Weekend, The Flaming Lips, Beck, Coldplay, and countless others. I mean, come on, that Vampire Weekend album came out two weeks ago. Respect.

Here's the kicker: you can download the whole album free at his Myspace. Go get it now. You'll be happy you did.

Wow, this guy is famazing. He gives Girl Talk a run for his money. I'm not sure which I like more now. I think it's cool that he quoted you on his myspace. "Where's Waldo for your ears." Genius.

Hey, it's Jamie from the St. Vincent show.

I just wanted to let you know that I took a minute to check out your blog. Thanks a ton for this! I've been in one of those "my music is boring" moods, and, needless to say, three tracks in, I am cured. (actually, I am not just cured, I am straight up freaking out)

Anyway, feel free to drop me a line. I think my email is attached to this somehow...

you cant download his whole album :( only one song.

you can download the whole album for free from E-603's own site. Girl Talk got me into mashups, I enjoy listening during the workday or while doing other work. But now I like E-603 and also Easter Egg better than Girl Talk.

This guy is pretty good, definitely NOT better than the big name mashers tho like Milkman, Girl Talk or Super Mash Bros, but pretty good for an amature.

LOL at the idea that Super Mash Bros are either "professional" or good. In my short time as a music blogger, they have snubbed us not once but twice. Additionally, their music consists of stealing background samples (take the a capealls, those are high in demand but short in supply) and creating mediocre a+b moments, than amateurishly mixing them together. None of their albums have flow, and they show no proficiency in mixing their songs. SMB are high school kids who like to talk big with no real skill to back it up.

Milkman, Girl Talk, and E-603 are the only good compositional sampling artists. Easter Egg, Hood Internet, Super Mash Bros, and all the rest never fail to bore me to tears with their albums.

BTW, they are all 2manydjs rip-offs, so who gives a shit?

Thank you last poster! E-603 and Girl Talk are good, but they all pale in comparison to the originators, 2-Many DJs.

Everyone else, get yourself a copy of "As Heard on Radio Soulwax" Part 2
