We all need a break from the norm at times. Want to hear something different? Take a listen below to Eric Whitacre's "October", a stunning composition for band. It features lush musical swelling and gorgeous soundscapes. The piece is simply breathtaking, from start to finish. The opening oboe line and the positively beautiful, quiet ending get me every time.Photo, titled "October Morning", credit here.

Eric Whitacre - October
Labels: Choral Orchestral And Bandal

I freaking love October. I've had it for a long time, and don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention. Thanks for sharing!
We're playing "Dance Movements" by Philip Sparke in Symphony A, that bitchin' piece we read last year.
Eric is a awesome writer and october makes me think of all the good times in my life
This piece was my second favorite to play that season. Mary did a wonderful job with the oboe solo, and the trombone harmonies made me melt.
"With Heart and Voice" was my favorite.
ah... good times.
thanks for posting this.
omg I've been searching forever for 'October' thank you so much!
I think his choral writing is incredible, Sleep and Lux aurumque are two of my favourite choral pieces, but his writing for wind band is not as good. This piece doesn't know what it is supposed to be. After the opening, it just wanders around aimlessly. I found it pretty disappointing.... sorry.....
