Kings Of Leon

I wrote off Kings Of Leon a long time ago. I didn't like their first album. I didn't like their second album. So by the time their third, Because Of The Times, came out last April, I didn't even bother to check it out. Well, it's a shame I didn't -- until recently, that is -- because it's a pretty fine album. I'm not sure what happened, but this is a completely different band than we last heard from. This isn't weak Southern rock with lame riffs anymore; it's groovy rock with a tight band sound and great high guitar fills. On the opening track, "Knocked Up", I love the fact that the singer sits on the leading tone of the scale for a section of the melody before resolving. Now, it's clear that the boys in Kings Of Leon have no idea what a leading tone is. But then again, how many average music listeners would? I'll bet many people reading this right now don't. But that's okay. You might not know what it is, but you'll hear why it's good.

Ya true you don't need to know what a "leading tone" is to write one into your music. He's just doing what sounds good. Yes that album is sick prob my top 5 this year but it hurts to hear you disregard their other albums. Aha Shake was awesome. Some totally rad dirty rock riffs in there. It's a different type of album but I think equaly as good as the new one.

There is a live show from Berlin floating around that is just sick! So much stronger live than in the studio, and the album is pretty damn good.

I did exactly the same thing, - the other albums were proper gash, but this one's great!

Kings of Leon is theeee best band out there.
    hands down.

I don't care what anyone says.
    They're amazing!

What a miss- the first two records were incredible, and this one is unlistenable. I could not get through one single song, and tried three times. This album was the biggest disappointment of the year.
