Wow, has it been almost two months since I've last written about Ben Folds? I better get on task -- there's a lot to share about that man. While I have always loved his music, I have also loved the boundless humor and fun which can be heard on any Ben Folds record. He's a goofy guy, and his knack of having a good time always shines through. My personal all-time favorite is "For Those Of Ya'll Who Wear Fannie Packs", a 6 minute rap jam from the Ben Folds Five era. This track has never ceased to make me laugh out loud. Simply hilarious. The band is so tight musically as they make their way through as much ridiculousness as they can...it's too much. Staying in the Ben Folds Five era, we also have the live recording "Satan Is My Master", and a sweet Japenese version of "Song For The Dumped". Of course, Ben still sings "and fuck you, too!" in English, which is what makes it.
Then we move on to the current era, Ben Folds as a free agent. Keeping his cool, he recorded a cover of Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit", which is now a classic. Also included below are two live recordings. Many years ago (2002 to be exact), at a concert here in Chicago, the "Rock This Bitch" legend began. Some dude in the audience yelled out said phrase which is now well known to any Ben Folds fan. "Rock this bitch? Mmmkay," Ben responded. He then ad-libbed a nice little number off the phrase. Since the release of the track on Ben Folds Live, his fans have never allowed him to get through a concert without someone yelling out "rock this bitch". Another subsequent live ad-lib based off of "Rock This Bitch" can be heard on the more current "Weather Channel Music".
This is Ben Folds. Good man.
