"Mirror on the wall, who's the hot band in the hall?" sings Jim Mathus on Squirrel Nut Zippers sophomore album, Hot. I do believe he's referencing his own band, and rightfully so. He formed Squirrel Nut Zippers back in 1993, and throughout the 90s they played a strong role in the Swing Revival Movement. Thus, to state the obvious, their music is typical of a standard swing-jazz band. Plus, Andrew Bird played with them occasionally back in the day (which is why I originally checked them out, so maybe it will spike your interest). The band took an indefinite hiatus in 2001, but they reunited -- albeit without two key members who have permanently left the band -- in early 2007, playing four dates. They're also playing a few shows this summer. All tour dates below.06-21 Richmond, VA - Toad's Place
